Project Description
In this project we not only made pieces of art and many calaveras, we also honored a person or pet of choice. To make a calavera we must first understand them. A calavera is basically making fun of the person or profession that the author chose. Once we have a calavera we are confident in we would create a piece of art including a skeleton of what the calavera was about. We also wrote a brief description of the person we wished to honor on Day of the Dead. In the end we would present both of these in an exhibition celebrating Day of the Dead.
Though everyone had at least 1 round of critique on their calaveras I feel this was my greatest area of refinement. I felt that I did better than I would have expected to with my calaveras. I was able to finish 2 calaveras and get them both refined to the point where they were free of errors. The calaveras are were I feel the most refinement happened.
My understanding of Mexican culture has grown this year more than it has in any other year. Not only have I learned about Day of The Dead I have also learned some history from Mexico such as the different tribes that occupied it. I have learned interesting facts such as how marigolds smell like corpses. Like I said this year I have learned more about Mexican culture this year than any other.
