My Personal Philosophy Project
Art and Reflection:
In the personal philosophy project we had a chance to explore our own philosophy through many differents texts. It was our goal to find out and to question the purpose of your existence and the meaning of human life on Earth, and to hopefully answer some of our own “existential questions” that we have created throughout our lives. When we had the option to take the project anyway in which we wanted, I took mine in the direction of, “What it means to be human.” When I say this, specifically I am talking about our sense of place as humans. I took this in a way here I could use essential project questions such as: What does it mean to live a meaningful life? AND What gives your life meaning? And, How do you characterize your (ethical) relationship with Earth/place/resources? I believe now, after the project is done, that my inspiration came from Chris McCandless and Into the Wild. Specifically his philosophy on his sense of place.
Throughout the project I have developed many new insights. For example, I didn’t really think of a sense of place before the project. In the end this was what I did my project on. It has really helped me dig deeper into the path towards meaning for my life. When this project first started, I had never really thought of my own philosophy let alone philosophy in general. With all the texts we looked at, like Into the Wild, Harold and Maude, Aristotle etc. It really defined what I think of not only my own life but of the earth and the universe.
Intellectually I believe that I will try to continue my philosophy, extend it, and dig deeper into it throughout the rest of highschool and further through life. Now after the project has wrapped up I wonder how I can look deeper into my philosophy behind my sense of place, and the desire behind it for humans. Finally, while I do feel I scratched the surface of: What does it mean to live a meaningful life?, I feel I can still dig deeper into it. This is one thing I hope to pursue this question in the future.
